  4. Thank you for taking the time to read this file before running our demo.
  5. This demo has been taken from actual scenes in the game, so it should give
  6. you a good idea about what the actual game will "feel" like.

  8. This demo is copyrighted by Humongous Entertainment. It may be distributed
  9. freely in its original form.

  11. In this demo, it's the night before Kayla's birthday and all the toys
  12. decide to prepare a special surprise party for her. Fatty Bear's working
  13. on getting the birthday cake done - can you help him find the missing cake
  14. plate somewhere outside the house? 
  15.  
  16.  As with all Junior Adventures, this demo features 256 color 
  17. graphics, digitized dialog and a _lot_ of sound effects, plenty of 
  18. animation, a fully mobile main character, and a real story. The demo
  19. features some puzzles unique to the demo and, like the real game, the
  20. puzzles are designed with kids 3-8 years in mind.

  22. This demo runs on Performa, Centris, Quadra, or equivelantly powerful
  23. machines, with 256 color (or greater) color cards. A hard drive is needed
  24. for both the game and the demo - the demo takes up over 1.9 megabytes.

  26.  To play the demo, go to the folder where the four installed files are
  27. located, and click on the Fatty Bear head (Fatty Bear Demo 1).

  40. Like the game, the demo has some keyboard commands but is designed around
  41. the mouse and the menu bar options. The following optional keyboard
  42. commands may be useful (note that Splat is the 4 loops key on the lower
  43. left):

  45.                        Splat           Bring up the menu bar
  46.      Spacebar or Splat-P      Pause/unpause the demo
  47.                      Splat-Q         Quit the demo
  48.                      Splat-R         Restart the demo
  49.                      Splat-V         Turn the dialog/sound effects on or off.  
  50.                                           When off, the dialog text is displayed 
  51.                                           on-screen.
  52.                      Splat-M         Turn the music on or off

  56. To play, click where you want Fatty Bear to go, or click on an object to
  57. see if it does anything (a click-point). If the cursor turns into an
  58. arrow, clicking here will make Fatty Bear walk to this room exit and into
  59. another screen (this is how the player knows where the exits are!). Be
  60. sure to click on all the click-points (animations throughout the demo)
  61. more than once - many have multiple animations that randomly are dis-
  62. played.

  65. The "Fatty Bear's Birthday Surprise" game is currently available for
  66. Macintosh machines, as well as PC compatibles, in either CDROM or floppy
  67. format (both have full digitized speech and sound effects) as well as the
  68. 3DO format.
